Biomedical Science is the use of biology-based science for medical purposes. Investigations by biomedical scientists concern performing and analyzing technical procedures to screen, maintain, and improve human health.
What our program offers: The Jane S. Roberts K-8 Center Biomedical/ Forensics Academy begins in 6th grade and completes in 8th grade. Students in the middle school receive pre-requisite coursework that will assist their acceptance into various senior high schools offering Biomedical or Forensic academies. Course work will entail classes in Anatomy and Physiology, Health Services, Biomedical Science, Forensic Science and Research Methods. Students will be immersed in intensive research, lab work, reports, and projects.
Law Studies examines the purpose of the law, the role of citizens, and the fundamental civil and criminal justice procedures of the American judicial system.
What our program offers: The Jane S. Roberts K-8 Center Law begins in 6th grade and completes in 8th grade. Students in the middle school receive pre-requisite coursework that will assist their acceptance into various senior high schools offering Legal and Criminal Justice academies. Course work will entail exploration of Introduction to Legal and Public Affairs, Criminal Justice, and the principles, functions, and organization of the American legal system.
Admission Requirements: Admission is open to any elementary student who has successfully completed the first semester of 5th grade with a MINIMUM 2.5 grade point average (core courses only). Rigorous course work will require students to have a strong academic background in math and science. Students from ANY elementary in MDCPS may apply to our program. Students already attending JSR are not automatically guaranteed admission to the Biomedical/Forensics program.
